We brought Songkran room-offer spend for three channels and the replies our front desk had logged by hand. Nalin refused the week I first suggested, because it included a long weekend the year before and our roster this year did not. I was impatient about that. The charts made the argument visible, and the owner stopped treating a shorter open period as a failed campaign. The bound set reached us two days after the date we had circled, because we changed a spend line late. I would have liked the paper sooner. The reading itself held up in the room.
Client stories
What was said after the meeting, including the late folder.
Three commissions. The hotel story is written out in full because the comparison rule, the delay, and the owner’s argument all belong in the same account.
One chart. We asked whether the weekend live-selling hours were carrying the month or only looking busy. Arthit drew hours against paid orders and left the empty hours as gaps. The Thursday slot we had been proud of was a small mark next to Sunday. We stopped adding it. I still think the sheet is blunt. That was the point.
Four readings in a year. The third, after Loy Krathong, is the folder I still open. Spend on the gift guide had looked strong until the chart placed returns beside orders. I did not enjoy that page. We used it when we set the next print run, and we cut a colourway that had photographed well and come back often. The first reading of the year was less useful. We were still learning which columns Nalin would refuse.
A reading, written out
Songkran at the riverside hotel
Pimchanok booked a campaign reading in March for a presentation eleven working days later. The hotel had run a room-offer push across search, a partner email list, and a riverside-package page. The front desk had kept a paper log of callers who mentioned the offer. That log was the sales figure she trusted. The booking-engine export mixed the offer with ordinary reservations, so we left it out and said so on the first page.
Her first comparison was the same calendar week one year earlier. That week contained a public holiday stack and two days when the reservations desk closed at midday. This year’s window was fully staffed. Putting the totals side by side would have made a capable season look thin. The comparison note replaced the calendar twin with five matched open days, and added a daily pace column so the shorter roster last year stayed visible.
Arthit drew three sheets: spend by channel in absolute baht, the front-desk mentions by day, and a split between guests who had stayed with the hotel before and guests the offer was meeting for the first time. The third sheet was the one the owner argued with. Most of the mentions came from people who already had a stay on file. The campaign had reminded them. It had not filled the hotel with strangers. That was a smaller story than the brief had hoped for, and it was the story the next budget used.
Two days before the presentation, finance revised a partner-list spend line. The sheets were redrawn. The presentation moved by two days. Pimchanok has been clear that the delay was unwelcome. The studio’s note of it is the same: the redraw was the right call, and the date we first circled was missed. She collected the cloth folder on the revised afternoon, already marked in pencil from the owner’s meeting.
